The Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project approximates that police interaction with demonstrations was limited to 5% in Michigan, but in 65% of those interaction the ACLED estimated police used tear gas, rubber bullets, pepper spray, or beat demonstrators with batons.

 Shelby Township police officers arrest a protester for taking the street with Detroit Will Breathe after the march was declared an unlawful assembly on Saturday, October 24, 2020, at the 50000 block of Van Dyke Ave, Shelby Township, Michigan. The protester above was arrested more than 30 minutes after the initial arrests for taking the street and was arrested by police after the protest had moved to the sidewalk. The protest was held in part for the removal of Shelby Townships Police Chief, Robert J. Shelide, who was suspended in June for 30 days without pay for a series of tweets glorifying police violence on protesters.
